Italian, without the clichés.

How we built Gusto D'Italia a brand identity that runs from the takeaway box to the menu on the table.

Scope of project

What We Were Solving

The challenge

Italian restaurants are everywhere, and most of them reach for the same red, white and green and the same script font. Diners decide where to eat from a photo, a sign or a box someone brought home.

Gusto needed a brand that felt genuinely Italian without the clichés, and that worked in the room as well as on the packaging.

How We Got There

The process

1

Discovery

The food, the room, the customers and the feeling Gusto wanted people to leave with.

2

Identity design

Logo and identity as one system, with the restaurant space in mind from day one. See our branding across North Wales.

3

Pattern and packaging

A packaging pattern that carries the brand out of the door on every order.

4

Menus

Menu layouts designed in the same system, so the brand reads at the table too.

Our Reasoning

The thinking behind the final direction

1

Italian, without the clichés.

The identity had to feel Italian without leaning on the same flag colours and script fonts as every other trattoria.

2

Built to travel.

The logo is strong enough that the restaurant turned it into its neon sign.

3

Pattern carries the brand home.

When the box leaves the building, the pattern does the talking.

Proof

The outcome

A restaurant brand that works in the room, on the menu and on the box.
